REMEMBRANCE Tribute to fallen packs out Boltons Victoria Square
THOUSANDS of people were involved in ensuring Bolton's first Remembrance Sunday service after lockdown was commemorated with dignity.
More than 50 wreaths, representing services organisations, politicians, schools, Scouts, the Boys Brigade, Girl Guides and many others were laid after a packed service in Victoria Square.
Mayor of Bolton Cllr Linda Thomas led the way, followed by the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Bolton's own Diane Hawkins.
Veterans representing the Army, Navy and RAF were among those paying their respects later.
But younger people also played their part, with pupils from Eatock Primary, Oxford Road, Primary, Rumworth School and Westhoughton High all taking a turn to leave a poppy tribute at the cenotaph.
Vicar of Bolton, Dr Chris Bracegirdle reminded those assembled that this year's commemorations had particular significance as 2021 marked the centenary of the foundation of the Royal British Legion.
The Last Post, by Lance Bombardier Catherine Line - 103rd Lancashire Artillery Volunteers Band - preceded an immaculately observed two minute's silence. And the crowd broke out in spontaneous applause as the parade departed.
